With an unwavering commitment to sustainability practices, AfroRicky Organique launched an innovative agriculture project, cultivating fields of regenerative cotton in its land of origins, Inhambane.

In Inhambane, Mozambique, Ricância Agira, affectionately known as Ricky, harbored a unique dream from her teenage years: to channel her boundless creativity into the art of fashion design. Amidst the backdrop of pervasive poverty and gender discrimination, Ricky resolved to seize control of her destiny, forging her path towards empowerment through the transformative medium of entrepreneurship.
Fuelled by an insatiable hunger for change and armed with little more than determination, Ricky embarked on a remarkable journey of self-discovery. With each stitch, each creation, she delved deeper into the art of fashion production, learning the intricacies of everything from cultivating cotton to the alchemy of natural fabric dyes.
In 2010, Ricky achieved a remarkable milestone by clinching the title of the best designer in the nation at the prestigious National Festival of Culture, triumphing over 40 talented fashion designers.
By 2013, at the youthful age of 22, Ricky’s exceptional talent and dedication had caught the attention of the Ministry of Culture of Mozambique. She received a prestigious invitation to join the fashion council of the National Festival of Culture, with esteemed guests from Swaziland, Morocco, and France.
As she traversed the length and breadth of Mozambique, Ricky’s senses were awakened to the significance of the Capulanas – the iconic garments worn by African women and men alike. These encounters infused her designs with a profound cultural resonance, laying the foundation for her distinctive style.
Undeterred by the challenges that lay ahead, Ricky blazed a trail of innovation, pioneering the use of locally produced natural dyes in her 2020 collection – a first in Mozambique’s fashion landscape. Her relentless pursuit of sustainable fashion led her on a quest across the globe, seeking out new techniques that would minimize her ecological footprint.
Today, Ricky stands as a beacon of inspiration, her journey a testament to the transformative power of passion and perseverance. From humble beginnings to international acclaim, her story is a testament to the boundless potential of those who dare to dream.
